I was so delighted to be invited to speak to the Fort Worth Garden Club by Nancy Hallman and here I am with Nancy and Taddie Hamilton, President of the Club. The program took place in the handsome building of the Botanical Garden of Forth Worth, a building that was built thanks to the hard work and support of the Garden Club. I was thrilled to see Carl Neels come from Dallas where he is a distinguished garden designer himself, since he was a dear friend of Rosemary Verey’s — we had a great time recalling shared memories of her. You can see the amazing spread of delicious food the Garden Club provided for the event. Before my talk, we first had a very special presentation honoring the impressive students from Castleberry High School who have been working hard to plant trees and otherwise beautify their City. The students received the award in the name of Mary Louise Michie, an inspiring woman who had done so much herself, shown here at the age of 101. My talk then followed to a very engaged and enthusiastic audience. After the talk, the Garden Club officers kindly invited me to a lovely lunch at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, with its stunning architecture done by Tadao Ando.
In the afternoon, my husband Charlie and I then had a memorable time visiting the other superb museums of Fort Worth, which are located near and around the Botanical Garden in what is called the Cultural District. We also visited the Botanical Garden, especially its renowned Japanese Garden in the good company of Nancy Hallman. Later that evening, Charlie and I had the great pleasure of meeting Nancy’s husband, Bill and enjoying their company in their elegant home over a delicious dinner. What an incredible first visit to Fort Worth for me! I hope to be able to return again and often.
