On two spectacularly clear days in June, I had the great pleasure of first meeting with a delightful group of supporters of the American Horticultural Society who came together from many states across the country — Texas, Washington State, the Carolinas and more — for a garden tour of Litchfield County. They kindly invited me to give a book talk after dinner on Monday evening at the Interlaken Inn where I was introduced by Holly Shimizu, Interim Executive Director of the AHS. I had met Holly some time ago when she was Executive Director of the American Botanic Garden, a post she held for many years before stepping in to lead the AHS as they searched for a successor. Since I spoke after dinner, I was brief! Twenty minutes. But I gave a hint of my new book to come, with the working title Heroes of Horticulture — now at the publisher and soon out. 
The next day the group arrived to tour the gardens and then spread out to enjoy a box lunch delivered by The Pantry in various seating areas, some choosing to sit in the strong sun on the stonewalls. 
As usual, you can see Charlie pouring wine for them, his way of insuring that everyone takes away happy memories of Brush Hill!
Others found tables on the terraces, or breezes on the Pinnacle, shade in the Folly or in Holly’s case, a little privacy with a long time friend at the Well House.
