Hollister House hosted its eighth annual Garden Study Weekend, titled A Passion for Plants, on September 8 and 9 in miraculously dry, or mostly dry weather. It was a sold out event and I was honored to be asked to speak about my book, and particularly delighted to highlight the heroes that were present or speaking, especially George Schoellkopf, the creator of Hollister House Garden and co-host of the program with The Garden Conservancy. who welcomed everyone to the program. You can see the lineup of all the speakers above from left to right, Kelly Norris, George Schoellkopf, Sarah Price, Lynden Miller (another of my heroes), Taylor Johnston, Ed Bowen and finally me. James Brayton Hall, President of the Garden Conservancy also spoke briefly to welcome everyone. Another hero was present, Andrew Bunting, who spoke last year and came from Chicago and Pierre Bennerup, who wasn’t in the audience but was at Hollister House busy setting up plants for the marvelous special plant sale that followed the talks.
Edwin von Gal served as moderator and is here introducing my talk.
As I spoke standing between the audience and their lunch, my remarks were very brief. But the slides were easy to see, starting with the cover of the book, and next to last ending with the slide showing George Schoellkopf and a beautiful view of Hollister House Garden. I was happy to sign books afterwards which were too quickly sold out!
