I was delighted and honored to be asked to write a review of Penelope Lively’s new book, Life in the Garden (Viking 199 pages $25) for The Wall Street Journal. My review appeared in the Saturday-Sunday July 14-15, 2018 issue with a colorful picture of someone’s hand placing a small plant in a pot. Now in her mid=80s, this Booker Prize winning and prolific writer had written this small volume of musings about what gardening has meant to her and other writers, poets, philosophers and historians she admires. For those of us familiar with all her references to gardening greats, this is an engaging romp through many subjects, while others less familiar with the terrain might feel inspired to learn more. If you subscribe to the Wall Street Journal, you can read my full review here.
